According to Niche, Georgetown, Indiana is #1 in best places to buy a home in the Louisville area and #9 in best places to buy a home in Indiana.
Georgetown was founded in 1807 by George Waltz. The first settler, Patrick Shields arrived two years prior and built a water powered sawmill. The farmers in the area figured out that the best and easiest way to transport crops was to turn it into whisky. A large number of stills started developing along the stream that was later named, Whisky Run. In 1820 a general store was built and George Waltz was persuaded to develop his land on Whisky Run Road, which is now Indiana State Road 64. Further growth occurred when a hotel opened in 1835 and a railroad was constructed in the 1880’s.
Now, Georgetown is a suburb of Louisville in Floyd County that still has a rural feel with easy access to the city. The population is around 3,000 with a large amount of young professionals and families moving into the area. The increased numbers of families and young professionals moving into the area is likely related to the highly ranked school district.
