There’s a big event happening that is connected to this Blog’s title. And if you don’t know, you must be living under a rock. Garth Brooks is here, of course! As an avid opponent of country music, even I knew that! Rachel and Kristin are so excited to be going and they will be at the Yum Center along with thousands of their closest friends. I don’t want to go to the concert, but I have to admit that the prospect of seeing a packed out arena of swaying, plaid-garbed, cowboy boot wearin’ (see what I did there? Dropped the g!), beer drinkin’ Garth fans is mighty tempting. There are FOUR shows altogether, two tomorrow night (Friday, April 8) and two on Saturday night. Showtimes are at 7:00 and 10:30pm. Doors open at 5:30 and 9:30 and it definitely wouldn’t hurt to get there early. It’s Brooks’ first appearance in Louisville in 18 years and I have heard he is a fantastic performer! Tickets ARE still available, but they are available only on Ticketmaster.com (officially, of course – however, I’m sure there will be someone standing outside Yum trying to sell their tickets).
Garth is not the only attraction this weekend – plenty of other things do! I’ve compiled a list of some here:
Another musical powerhouse will be in the ‘Ville this weekend! REO Speedwagon will be at the Louisville Palace Friday at 8pm. Get your tickets here.
Dust off your 3″ binders of Charizard, Pikachu, and Mewtwo and get yourself to the 2016 Pokemon Trading Card Game State Championships on Saturday. Tournament begins at 9:00am. Super nostalgia going on over here. Good luck! More info here.
Feel good about shopping at Fleatiques, an outdoor market at Mellwood Art Center on Saturday beginning at 10:00am. What’s really unique (and very cool) about this new market is that every month they will be sponsoring a charity and a portion of all set-up fees will go to that charity. April’s charity is ALS. Find out more here.
Shakespeare in the Park is at Iroquois Amphitheater, presenting “Romeo and Juliet” at 6:00pm on Saturday. The famous love story is presented by Kentucky Shakespeare and is free to the public.
If you haven’t yet, you NEED to attend a Louisville FC game. Louisville’s very own professional soccer team made waves last year in its inaugural season for its win-loss ratio (we finished second in the conference), attendance records and exciting atmosphere. I am a soccer fan, but even someone who’s never seen a game can really appreciate the atmosphere! Don your purple gear and if you’re feeling adventurous, sit near the fan section where the supporter group (named the Coopers) stand (yes, stand…if you are a member of the Coopers you are required to stand the whole game). Participate in the chants and songs and watch out for the smoke bombs! Read more about Louisville FC here.
So what’s happening on the Sunny Side this weekend? We’ve got a favorite here! Live music at Joe Huber’s on Friday (5-8pm), Saturday (4-8pm) and Sunday (1-5pm). Sip some wine (or beer!) and enjoy the music! Got more info here.
Help solve a murder at the Culbertson Mansion this Friday and Saturday! You will have to call to see if there are any spots left, but it looks like so much fun! The Murder mystery dinner is $25 per person and reservations are required. Read more here. Note: The Paxton Group will be attending a Murder Mystery Dinner in Louisville in May, so we will tell you all about the experience! Every dirty detail, including who was scared, who helped solve the mystery, and maybe even who died (eek!). Look for that in May!
So much to do and no way to do it all! Choose your event wisely, have SO much fun and, above all, BE SAFE!!
